FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pool Fence FAQ
The Answer: No. Guardian’s mesh, fence, and gate are designed so children are unable to gain enough leverage at any point of the fence to climb over it.
The size of the holes in our mesh fabric is so small (0.25″ x 0.25″ inch) that fingers and cannot fit through. Also, neither our fence nor patented gate contains a crossbar of any kind that a child could potentially use to pull or push themselves over. Because there is no place on the fence where a child can grip or gain leverage, it is extremely unlikely that a child would be able to climb the fence. If your child likes to climb, we recommend keeping your patio furniture inside the fenced area so they do not use a chair or table to boost themselves over the fence. If you have more than one child under 5, we recommend getting a minimum of a 4 & 1/2 foot tall fence as children will sometimes use one another as leverage to get over the fence.
After a professional Guardian representative has helped you determine the appropriate height of your fence, it will be very unlikely for a child under the age of 5 to be able to climb our mesh fence without the assistance of outdoor furniture or another child.
The Answer: No. Your child CANNOT knock down Guardian Pool Fence using only their body’s force.
A properly installed Guardian fence is pulled so taut that it will easily bounce back from everyday disturbances, i.e., your 5-year-old running full speed into the mesh. This is even more true of our Premier line of fencing because the poles contain a stainless steel pin that reinforces the strength and durability of the fence.
If your child were to drive a fully charged Power Wheels on cement, with no interferences, at full speed directly at our Original pool fence pole, it may be possible to bend or break that pole at the fulcrum point. If your child doesn’t injure themselves in the crash and finds they still want to get into the pool area, it would be possible for them to circumvent the fence at a broken pole. If the pole is only bent, they would still have trouble getting through the fence.
This is obviously an extreme scenario that requires the combination of multiple extreme factors but we know when it comes to children nothing is out of the realm of possibility. If this is a concern for you, however, we would recommend a fence with our Premier poles which can withstand a great deal more than a hit from a fully charged Power Wheels. And remember, there is no substitute for adult supervision.
It is extremely difficult for a child or adult to knock down Guardian pool fences, but nothing is impossible for anyone with enough determination.
The Answer: No. Your child will not be able to lift the fence poles out of their holes because the average strength of a child 5 years or younger is less than the force generated by the tension of the fence.
Our poles are installed in 3-foot increments and each hole is drilled at a specific angle in relation to your pool shape and landscape. The angled poles are then pulled together, increasing total fence tension, and secured with a latch. The tension runs throughout the fence making lifting the pole out of the ground difficult for even most adults.
For complete peace of mind, we offer our patented locking deck-sleeve which permanently secures the poles to your deck, making it impossible for anyone to take the poles out without the necessary tools. And for added security, the locking deck sleeve can only be loosened from inside the fence.
A child 5 and under will not be able to lift a properly installed Guardian pool fence pole out of the ground.
The Answer: No. Your child 5 or younger will not be able to unlatch any of our safety hooks.
Our safety hooks are located at the top of our fences and have a spring-loaded sleeve that must be pulled back in order to remove the hook from the hole. As described above, the strong fence tension is secured by our safety latches so the force needed to push our angled fence poles even closer together is greater than the already high fence tension running through the fence. This means, in order to unlatch sections of fence, one must first be tall enough to reach the hooks, then strong enough to push the poles closer together, while simultaneously using fine motor skills of the hand to pull back the spring-loaded hook sleeve before lifting the hook out.
We have taken every preventative measure to make our fence as difficult to circumvent as possible by implementing a variety of child-safety features. It is extremely unlikely that your young child will have the height, strength, and mechanical ability to unlatch any section of the fence.
Our fence and gate heights are:
48″ (4 feet), 54″ (41/2 feet), & 60″ (5 feet) tall.
These heights are available for our Original, Premier and No Holes fence systems.
The cost of our fencing varies with your desired pole strength, mesh choice, deck surface, level of permanence, fence height, gate options, and linear footage.
With all of the options we offer, we recommend setting up a free estimate to more thoroughly discuss your needs.

If you would like to replace a portion of your fence, we do have complete panels available for purchase.
We do not sell mesh or border material separately.
If you live in the Los Angeles area and can come to our factory, we will be more than happy to replace your mesh or border material.
Please contact us for more information or to order your panels.
It is best to establish a cleaning and maintenance schedule. We recommend cleaning your fence a minimum of four times a year.
Rinsing your mesh fence with cold water will help keep it clean and free from deteriorating pool chemicals.
A mild liquid detergent may be used to clean the top and bottom border material, however, do not persistently wipe anywhere on the fence for an extended time as it could stretch the fabric over time.
We also recommend regularly lubricating the fence latches by applying a silicone spray to the hook and eye assemblies located between the panels of the fence. This will maintain easy operations when removing and reinstalling your fence.
When cleaning your patio with harsh cleaners such as acid, chlorine, bleach, etc., please take your fence down. Your fence is not warrantied against chemical damage.
The polypropylene sleeves in the deck are resistant to corrosion from pool chemicals. If chemicals or dirt get in the sleeve, flush out the debris with a garden hose.
We suggest that you remove your fence every three months (or as needed) to clean out the deck sleeves from all debris.
Do not use your fence as a “clothesline.” The weight of hanging towels, wet bathing suits, etc. will cause the top border to sag and could eventually compromise the safety of your fence. This is also not covered by warranty.
*** Please note that every panel of fencing corresponds to a particular section of holes in your pool deck. If you plan to reinstall your pool fence after storing it, it is important to keep track of these corresponding sections as they will need to be put back in the same deck locations. There are many strategies that will allow you to keep track of your fence order. One easy way is by giving the start of each fence section a number or letter. It is best to physically label the holes (either in the deck sleeve or under the ground hole covers) or create a diagram for yourself, especially if the fence will remain stored for an extended period of time. Then write the designated value on a piece of painters tape and place it on the corresponding panel.***
Removal and storage of your fence take an average of 15 minutes.
1. Start by unlatching the safety hooks between fence panels. To do this you will have to firmly hold the top of the connected poles while simultaneously pulling back the spring-loaded sleeve on the hook to unhook the latch.
2. After the panels are unhooked from one another, fence tension will be released and you can begin lifting the fence poles out of their ground sleeves.
3. Insert ground hole covers, roll up the mesh panels and store.
If your fence hasn’t been regularly maintained, you may come against some resistance during the removal process:
Stuck Safety Hooks: Use WD40 or another silicone spray to lubricate the springs, hooks, and eyes. After letting it sit for a few minutes, you should be able to pull the spring back and unhook the latch more easily.
Stuck Poles: The longer a pole stays in the ground, the more difficult it will be to remove. If you are having difficulty removing a pole, begin by hosing the fence down with water to loosen the ground. After the ground area around the poles are moist, try twisting the pole. If the pole does not twist, you should add more water to the ground then try moving the pole in small circles, but be careful not to push or pull too hard on the pole or you may risk damaging it.
To REINSTALL your fence:
1. Lay all fence sections next to their corresponding deck holes.
2. If you haven’t already, remove your deck hole covers, then hose out any debris located within the deck sleeves.
3. Begin inserting the fence poles, pushing them down deep enough so the border material of the mesh touches the deck. (If the mesh does not touch the deck, you may need to clean the deck sleeve again.) When reinstalling your gate, make sure the door swings outward, away from the pool.
4. After you have reinserted all of the poles, you can begin reconnecting the panel sections by securing the latches, starting with the gate.

After years of use, your mesh pool fence may not feel quite as taught as it once was. This is normal. To tighten any visibly loose areas of the fence, we highly recommend for a professionally trained installer to inspect your fence so they may make any necessary, specialized adjustments.

A properly maintained fence, with deck sleeves free of debris, will lower the visible sagging and loosening of your fence.
If you do not regularly clean and maintain your fence, gate, and deck sleeves, please see “How Should I Clean And Maintain My Fence?” and “How Do I Remove/Reinstall My Fence?” in the FAQ section above.

Our mesh fences roll up easily for compact storage. The UV inhibitors and weatherproof mesh material make our fence safe to store indoors or outdoors.
Our installation process takes an average of 4 daylight hours, but timing can vary depending on the length of your fence and the surface of your deck.
You do not need to be present for the duration of your installation and our team only require access to the outdoor area where your fence will be installed.
Your Guardian customer service representative will discuss the details of your installation and accommodate your schedule as best they can.
All Guardian safety fences can be installed into concrete, customized for placement in dirt and, in most cases, our fences and gate can even be installed into a wooden deck after making the proper accommodations.
Our climb-resistant gate must be secured into a mortared surface to provide the high tension necessary for proper function. If you have pavers or brick, we will need to pour concrete before installing the poles. The tension fit of a Guardian Fence is so tight, that the poles will lift up the drilled bricks that are not mortared.

Yes, we can install a Guardian fence into a wooden deck.
To properly secure the tension fit of your fence, accommodations will need to be made at each pole placement. If you wish to install our climb-resistant, self-closing gate on a wooden deck, a mortared surface will need to be secured beneath the deck to provide the necessary amount of tension for proper gate function.
We can use existing deck holes from a previous fence if they measure 11/4” (Original Pole) or 5/8″ (Premier Pole) and are in increments of 30″ or 36″ spacing.
There are a couple of things to consider when using previously drilled holes by another company:
1. In order to use your existing deck holes, we must use our Original Pole with your fence.
Other pool fence companies use the standard 11/4” poles which measure the same as our Original Pole. Unless the previously installed mesh fence was a Guardian Premier Fence, we will have to use our Original Pole. Despite this pole option limitation, all of your other options (mesh, height, border, and color) are still customizable.
2. When using previously drilled holes by another company, our fence may render less-attractive in certain areas around the perimeter.
Our deck holes are drilled at very precise angles to properly secure the tension fit which ensures the safety and aesthetics of your fence. Safety is our first priority. If the holes provide a safe fit for our fence, our installers will use the previously drilled holes as best they can to meet our aesthetic standards. If our installers feel there will be a safety issue, they will discuss your options with you and you may conclude a need for a few new holes.
We understand that using old deck holes is an appealing option because it can offer overall cost savings and means fewer holes in your deck.
We will try our best to satisfy your preferences but to ensure the highest quality and safety, we recommend allowing our expertly trained installers to use their professional discretion during the installation of your fence.
Pet Fence FAQ
Unfortunately, our pet fences are not a viable defense against wildlife. Our tallest available fence stands at five feet tall and animals like Coyotes will have no problem jumping over it. Our pet mesh is strong enough to withstand occasional scratching and clawing from dogs but smaller animals like raccoons, squirrels or rabbits will be able to make holes in our pet mesh if allowed to gnaw for long periods of time.
Our pet fences are intended to secure your designated outdoor areas from domesticated animals.
Yes! Our No Holes fence is available with Pet Mesh.
